A Food Packaging Company with over 100 Years of Experience
Plus Pack is a Danish, family-owned business with more than 100 years of experience in food packaging. Operating production facilities in Denmark and Belgium, the company specializes exclusively in designing, developing, and manufacturing sustainable packaging for the food industry. Over the years, Plus Pack has established itself as a leading and highly respected manufacturer in the sector.
The company focuses on two main product segments:
- Aluminium packaging
- Thermoformed plastic packaging
Vision Technology Unlocks New Opportunities
Driven by its commitment to sustainability and the development of fully recyclable packaging, Plus Pack invested in advanced vision systems for its aluminium production lines. The systems are tailored specifically to meet the demands of the company’s high-speed environment, where each production line outputs one tray per second.
Previously, Plus Pack’s quality control relied on manual inspection and statistical sampling, which had inherent limitations. The vision systems provide real-time inspection and 100% quality control, allowing employees to focus on other important tasks.
Food Safety is Top Priority
Plus Pack had three requirements for the systems:
- They had to handle high-speed production and capture four images of each tray before stacking.
- They had to include a dark chamber with strong, focused lighting to detect even the tiniest holes or defects.
- Every single product leaving the factory should be compliant and free of defects thanks to the systems.
Food safety is Plus Pack’s top priority. In aluminium packaging, this means ensuring that no defects are present in any product – particularly those that could pose a risk to consumers, such as metal fragments.
From One Vision System to Fourteen
A decade ago, Plus Pack installed its first TriVision system. Since then, that number has grown to 14. The production manager at Plus Pack believes that TriVision stood out from its competitors due to the company’s clear desire for collaboration and problem-solving. Both companies shared a strong commitment to solving the complex challenges of quality control in high-speed production. Today, they maintain almost daily communication, and their partnership is stronger than ever.
According to the Production Manager at Plus Pack, the investment in multiple TriVision systems wasn’t just the result of reliable service but also clear, measurable benefits, such as fewer recalls and reduced expenses. He also points out how flexible the vision systems are, which is important for Plus Pack, as the company often shifts from making one product one day to another the next.
An Investment for the Future
While Plus Pack currently uses the vision system’s analytics mainly for troubleshooting, there’s a strong interest in utilizing its full capabilities.
The company sees potential in using TriVision’s Production Intelligence for Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and trend analysis – tools that could deliver even more value in the future. Ultimately, the investment in vision technology has been crucial for Plus Pack’s success.
